Armature Lamination Manufacturer in India

Precision armature lamination stamping for mixer grinders, power tools, starter motors and automotive PMDC motors. High-speed stamping with in-die stacking from our Bengaluru facility.

What Are Armature Laminations?

An armature lamination is a thin, precisely stamped sheet of electrical steel that forms the rotating core of a universal motor, PMDC motor, or starter motor. These laminations are stacked together — sometimes hundreds of them — to build the armature core. The armature core holds the copper windings that create the magnetic field needed to make the motor spin.

Why use thin laminations instead of a solid metal piece? The answer is simple: to reduce energy loss. When a solid metal core rotates in a magnetic field, it develops eddy currents — small circular electrical currents that generate heat and waste energy. By using thin, insulated laminations, we break these eddy current paths and keep losses low. This is why the thickness and quality of each lamination directly affects motor efficiency.

SNV Stamping Solutions is an emerging armature lamination manufacturer based in Bengaluru, India. We operate a Yadon 220T high-speed press with Yaskawa servo feeder to produce armature stampings with tight tolerances, low burr, and consistent stacking. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility serves motor manufacturers across India.

Applications of Armature Laminations

Armature laminations are used in any motor where the rotor carries the winding. Here are the main application areas we serve:

Mixer Grinder Motors

Universal motor armature laminations for domestic mixer grinders. Stamped from 0.5mm CRCA CR2 grade coil with 51% material yield. High-volume production with in-die auto stacking.

Power Tool Motors

Armature cores for angle grinders, drills, circular saws, and other power tools. These motors run at high RPM and need laminations with low core loss and tight dimensional control.

Starter Motors

Automotive starter motor armature laminations for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. These need to handle high peak currents during cranking and must have excellent stacking consistency.

Automotive PMDC Motors

Armature laminations for permanent magnet DC motors used in automotive applications — wiper motors, window lift motors, seat adjustment motors, and HVAC blower motors.

Quality Specifications

Every armature lamination we produce is checked for dimensional accuracy, burr height, flatness, and slot concentricity. Here are our standard quality parameters:

Parameter Specification
Material Thickness Range 0.2 mm to 1.0 mm
Maximum Strip Width 400 mm
Burr Height Within 0.02 mm
Stacking Factor 97% to 98%
CRNO Grades Available 50C1300, 50C800, 50C600, 50C470, 50C330
CRCA Grade (Mixer Grinder) 0.5 mm CR2
Material Yield (Mixer Grinder Armature) ~51%
Stacking Method In-die auto stacking with auto skewing

Our stacking factor of 97-98% means minimal air gaps between laminations. This gives your motor better magnetic performance without increasing the core length. The burr within 0.02 mm ensures clean stacking and prevents short circuits between laminations during motor operation.

Our Stamping Capabilities

High-Speed Press

We operate a Yadon 220T high-speed press with a Yaskawa servo feeder. The servo feeder gives us precise strip feed control, which is critical for maintaining pitch accuracy across the lamination. This setup allows us to run at high strokes per minute while keeping dimensional consistency.

In-Die Auto Stacking and Skewing

Our progressive dies include in-die auto stacking — laminations are stacked inside the die itself, so they come out as a finished core stack. We also do auto skewing (rotation of individual laminations by a set angle during stacking). Skewing is important for armature cores because it reduces cogging torque and makes the motor run smoother with less vibration and noise.

CNC Rotor Shaft Turning

For customers who need rotor shafts along with armature lamination stacks, we do CNC turning in-house on our Ace Designers Super Jobber 500 LM lathe. This means you can source both your armature core and rotor shaft from a single vendor, simplifying your supply chain.

Die Maintenance

We handle all die maintenance in-house to keep tool condition at its best. Regular die sharpening and component replacement ensures consistent burr levels and dimensional accuracy across long production runs. For new die requirements, we work with specialist die makers and manage the coordination.

Quality System

Our facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified. We follow standard quality processes including incoming material inspection, in-process checks, and final inspection before dispatch. Every batch is checked for burr, flatness, OD/ID dimensions, slot width, and stack height.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an armature lamination?

An armature lamination is a thin sheet of electrical steel, stamped into a specific shape, that forms the core of a motor's rotating part (the armature). Multiple laminations are stacked together to create the armature core. The reason we use thin laminations instead of a solid piece is to reduce eddy current losses — these are unwanted electrical currents that cause the motor to heat up and lose efficiency. Each lamination is electrically insulated from the next, which limits the path for eddy currents.

What material is used for armature laminations?

The material depends on the application. For mixer grinder armatures, we use 0.5mm CRCA (Cold Rolled Close Annealed) steel, CR2 grade. For power tools and starter motors that need higher efficiency, we use CRNO (Cold Rolled Non-Oriented) silicon steel in grades ranging from 50C1300 to 50C330. The grade number indicates the core loss — lower numbers mean lower loss and better efficiency, but they cost more. The right grade depends on your motor's performance requirements and budget.

What is stacking factor and why does it matter?

Stacking factor is the ratio of the actual steel in a lamination stack to the total stack height. Our armature lamination stacks achieve a stacking factor of 97-98%. A higher stacking factor means more active magnetic material per unit length of the motor core, which directly improves motor performance. Poor stacking — caused by burr, uneven thickness, or warping — results in a longer core for the same magnetic performance, increasing motor size and cost.

Can SNV supply fully assembled armature cores?

We supply stamped and stacked armature lamination cores. We also do CNC turning for rotor shafts in-house on our Ace Designers Super Jobber 500 LM lathe. However, we do not do rotor die casting. For a complete armature assembly with die casting, we can coordinate with our partner vendors. This way you get one point of contact for your armature components.

What is the typical material yield for mixer grinder armature laminations?

For standard mixer grinder armature laminations stamped from 0.5mm CRCA CR2 grade coil, we achieve approximately 51% material yield. This is in line with industry standards for armature stamping. The yield depends on factors like lamination OD, number of slots, strip width optimisation, and whether we can nest other smaller parts in the same strip. We work to optimise the strip layout during tool setup to get the best possible yield.
